BMA Director Doreen Bolger Retires

According to a just now published SUN post Doreen Bolger, Director of the Baltimore Museum of Art announced her retirement today.

Bolger, 66, announced Wednesday that she will retire on June 30 after 17 years as the museum director.
"It's important to know when the time is right to make a change," Bolger said.

"Last fall, as we were celebrating the museum's 100th anniversary and were starting to think about the future, I realized that many of the things that I had wanted to accomplish as director we had pulled off. I'm anticipating that a great new leader will be brought in to move the museum forward."

On her Facebook page Doreen Bolger posted this:

I have been thrilled to serve as BMA Director for 17 years. The BMA is an incredible museum in an awesome city. I look forward to seeing you all---think of how much time I will now have to attend exhibitions, performances, and gatherings! Wow! smile emoticon

Her posting received already dozens of comments lauding her tenure.

Doreen has been tireless in moving the BMA into an age with more open museum walls. She has reached out to the broader art community on a daily basis. Just yesterday evening she attended the Design Conversation #69 at the Wind-Up Space. I have worked with Doreen on the board of D center and am truly saddened by her stepping down from the job she did so well.
